Learning paralyzed as watchmen assault teachers

Learning was on Friday, May 5 paralyzed at Kadika Girls’ Secondary School in Migori after two watchmen blocked and assaulted two Board of Management (BOM) teachers who had allegedly been sacked via an SMS but had insisted on reporting to the school.

The duo, who latter forced their way into the school, were shortly arrested by the police to record statement at Migori Police Station.

The two teachers, Victor Onana and Maxwell Oloo, who were contracted by the school in January 2017, were reporting to work as usual when the school watchmen reportedly locked them outside following an instruction from the school’s Principal, Mrs Dina Oboro.

Speaking to the press, Mr. Oloo questioned the reason why he was being fired without any tangible reason adding that he never received any termination notice.

Mr. Oloo said the school advertised for the position of BOM teachers and was considered after an interview and therefore firing him through an SMS is illogical, further urging the education stakeholders to intervene.

Eye witnesses who requested anonymity said the two teachers were badly harassed and assaulted by the security officers.

The two watchmen, who also recorded statements at Migori Police Station, said they were instructed by the school principal to block the two teachers.

Efforts to reach the principal were futile.
