Leave Uhuru’s name out of fake gold scam, Ruto tells Opposition

DP William Ruto has said the Opposition must leave President Uhuru Kenyatta’s name out of what he calls ‘their illegal gold business’.

Speaking on Saturday in Trans Nzoia, the Deputy President said “these people who are political conmen turned business conmen should carry their cross alone”.

“I tell our brothers in the Opposition not to import their bad habits to Jubilee; they should shun engaging in dirty deals, corruption and coning others,” he added.

Leaders who had accompanied the DP on his tour of Endebess and Saboti constituencies rallied behind him saying ODM’s Raila Odinga should state what he knows about the fake gold scandal.

Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu said he is suspicious of Mr Odinga even if his reputation has been ‘clean’.

The Kiambu Governor regretted that the Opposition Chief can afford to lecture some leaders on corruption “while he was busy swindling others of their money”.

Other leaders roped in Interior CS Fred Matiang’i saying he should also explain how the country’s security was protecting the premises with fake gold.

According to Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa, the Interior CS to step aside over the scandal.

“How can you use General  Service Unit to safeguard the home of those involved in the criminal activity?” she posed adding that the Parliamentary Security Committee would summon him to explain to the country the extend of his involvement in the fake gold scandal.

“If he (Mr Matiangi) would purport to tell the Committee that he does not know what the security details were doing at that home, the he does not deserve to be in-charge of the internal security docket,” she said.

Mr Pukose further added that the Interior PS Karanja Kibicho must be held accountable.

“We cannot have someone in-charge of internal security mentioned in the gold scandal. He must step aside to pave way for investigations,” the Endebess MP said.

Other leaders present were Trans Nzoia Governor Patrick Khaemba, Woman Reps Janet Nangabo (Trans Nzoia), Rahab Mukami (Nyeri) as well as MPs Mathias Robi (Kuria West), Janet Jepkemboi (Turbo), Gabriel Tongoyo (Narok West) and Fred Kapondi (Mt Elgon).
