Lecturers down tools over NHIF rates
The Kenya University Staff Union (KUSU) Narok Branch members have downed their tools in solidarity with other unions to protest the increased NHIF fees.
Led by the Secretary General Stanley Yele, the workers said they will not return to work unless the government engages various stakeholders in resolving the matter through dialogue.
Yele further added that the union members would not sign any forms distributed by the NHIF as the increased amounts did not put in consideration the welfare of the employees.
He said the new amounts should have been made after the government increases salaries and that the charges were fairer at Ksh 320.
The staff members at the Maasai Mara University also say they were not consulted when the charges were made.
Kiplagat Serem, who is the chairman Maasai Mara University branch said the government should ensure that NHIF is accountable and transparent in terms of service delivery so that they can increase the fees.
