Legio Maria Pope Romanus Ongombe appoints new deputy

Pope Romanus Ongombe of the Legio Maria religious sect has appointed Rev. Dismas Agose as the Deputy Pope to replace the outgoing Rev. Lawrence Ochieng.

According to Provincial Church Investigator of Government Affairs for the Legio Maria in East Africa, Bishop Elias Gunga said the decision was reached after consultations with some of the top officials.

Bishop Gunga said the changes were occasioned by the desire to fight cases of mismanagement of funds and so as to retain the sect faithful.

He said much of the funds collected to support various projects have occasionally been swindled by a few top officials who “have been running the church as their own personal investments.”

He added that the appointment of the Deputy Pope by Pope Ongombe is final, further saying nobody else has the powers annul the decision.

Bishop Gunga also assured transmogrification in the management of the Legio Maria sect led by Pope Ongombe, asking the faithful to remain supportive to the church.
