Legio Maria members decry grabbing of church land

The Legio-Maria Church at Mukuru kwa Reuben slums in Nairobi, on Sunday demonstrated for hours against a private developer who is alleged to have grabbed the church’s land.

Led by the church’s Pope Raphael Otieno, members appealed to the government to intervene and help the church protect a three acre piece of land that they claim they have owned since 1966.

Otieno added that they have proper documentation to prove ownership and were shocked when the developer asked them to vacate.

Legio Maria movement was legally registered in Kenya in 1966 as a church after its massive expansion and breakaway from the mainstream Catholic Church which was initiated by claims of repeated appearances of a mystic woman, Fatima, to several Roman Catholic members delivering messages about the incarnation of the son of God as a black man.

The church reveres Simeo Ondetto as God’s son incarnate who had supernatural attributes that established him as a spiritual leader as well as the coming of the Holy Spirit at the home of John Baru in Suna, Migori.
