Lenku Launches Automated Registration Of Persons

Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph ole Lenku says the exercise will be concluded within three months.

The Cabinet Secretary blamed the current insecurity in the country to weak identification exercise as well as corruption in the registration department.

Lenku similarly put on notice registration officers who will be found engaging in corruption and other malpractises.

He indicated that 60% of births and 47% of deaths that occurred last year were not recorded.

The Cabinet Secretary revealed that only 834,847 out of 1.4 million births were registered in 2013.

In the same year, only 189,381 out of 400,679 people who died are appearing in government records.

The CS was speaking at the Kenya School of Monetary Studies in Nairobi.
