Let counties manage CDF Rasanga

Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga has renewed calls on the need to channel Constituency Development Fund (CDF) through the county governments to avoid duplication of projects.

The governor argues that this will help in ensuring proper coordination and implementation of development projects such as maintenance of roads within the counties.

He says CDF can be managed by the counties and channeled to the sub-counties where it should then be strictly limited to education bursaries and infrastructure development in schools.

Governor Rasanga said as things stand currently, there is confusion as both county government and CDF management committees may end up contracting different people to do the same job.

He made the remarks during a fundraising at the St. Michael’s Boro Catholic Church in Alego/Usonga constituency where he called for patience over the controversy surrounding the establishment of a sugar factory at the Yala swamp.

The governor said he had noticed that the Dominion Company had indeed exceeded the 3,000 hectares allocated to it for the construction of the sugar milling plant at Yala swamp, something the community is not happy about.

He further noted that the company had already made an application to his county government to engage in sugarcane plantation, an applications he says did not disclose where the company planned to carry out the farming.

Rasanga, who lashed out at those opposed to the establishment of a sugar factory in the region, has, however, called for patience, noting that his office is currently handling the issue to ensure that any investment that is put up at the swamp is done through the right procedure.
