Let the people of Kibra decide, says McDonald Mariga after IEBC all clear

Football star McDonald Mariga has finally spoken out after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on Monday cleared him to vie in the upcoming Kibra by-election on a Jubilee Party ticket.

Mariga, addressing the press outside the IEBC headquarters in Nairobi, expressed confidence at clinching the seat.

“The people of Kibra will decide who becomes their Member of Parliament. They will be my bosses and I know everything will go well on November 7, 2019,” said the former Kenyan international.

“I have all necessary documents and that is not a problem for now…we are here to speak about the issue of the certificate and that is also over.”

Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen on his part lauded the IEBC for giving Mariga the green light saying “justice has been done.”

“Victory will belong to the people of Kibra, the leader they will elect will be theirs. As a party, we will give Mariga our support…but we are not the ones asking for votes, he is, and if elected he will serve the people of Kibra,” said Murkomen.

Former Kakamega Senator Bonny Khalwale further rubbished recent speculations about Mariga’s real age saying the only things that matter are that he is over 18 years of age and is hence eligible to vote, and is also eligible to contest for any seat by the virtue of being over 21 years in accordance with the law.

Lang’ata MP Nixon Korir echoed Khalwale’s remarks stating that the speculations were unfounded, adding that Jubilee would begin its campaigns for Mariga immediately.
