Lets focus on development, Waiguru tells politicians

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has called on the political class to shift focus from political rhetoric and instead focus on development.

Speaking to Citizen Digital ahead of the Friday April 6, visit by Deputy President William Ruto in Kirinyaga, Governor Waiguru said that it was selfish for political leaders to extend the campaign euphoria beyond the scheduled election timelines adding that what the people need is development.

“There is time for everything; there is time to politic and time to engage in development. What the people want is development that will change their lives for the better and not empty rhetoric,” said Waiguru.

“Personally, I am focused on delivering the promises I made to the people of Kirinyaga to ensure the living standards are improved,” she added

Governor Waiguru further noted that she will work with the national government to ensure the realisation of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Big Four Agenda of ensuring access to affordable healthcare, housing, improving food security and manufacturing.

“If you look keenly, you will realise that some of the things we intend to do in Kirinyaga in our Mountain Cities Vision 2032 are aligned to what President Kenyatta plans for the country,”said Waiguru.

“We intend to set up an industrial park in Ndia, for example, that will ensure value addition and create employment and construct low-cost houses near the location where Thiba dam is – a project that will also be managed by the youth. There are similarities between these and President’s agenda on manufacturing and low-cost housing.” added the Governor

The Governor further pointed out that the murraming and grading of roads in various parts of Kirinyaga is on-going adding that in the coming weeks she will be launching several other projects as she moves towards changing the face of Kirinyaga.

Upon arrival, Deputy President William Ruto commissioned the upgrading to bitumen standard and maintenance of Njegas-Kangaita and Kiaga-Mukinduri roads as part of Jubilee government’s plan to expand infrastructure network in the country.

Addressing locals after the launch, DP Ruto urged leaders in Kirinyaga to support the current administration led by Governor Waiguru to ensure development is realised.

The DP was keen to note that divisive politics is detrimental to the stability of the county’s economy calling on residents and local leaders to desist from engaging in politics of incitement and hate.
