Liberias Sirleaf leaves after five-day state visit

President Uhuru Kenyatta Thursday morning bid farewell to Liberian President Ellen Sirleaf Johnson after her five day state visit.

President Sirleaf came to Kenya on December 10th for a state visit followed by other high level engagements. On her arrival, the Liberian leader was given a grand reception at the State House in Nairobi before the two Presidents held bilateral talks.

During her stay, President Kenyatta decorated President Sirleaf with Kenya’s highest Presidential award– Chief of The Order of the Golden Heart of Kenya (CGH).

President Sirleaf addressed the inaugural forum of the International Forum of Women in Business, where she acknowledged Kenya’s progress in Women’s empowerment.

The Liberian leader also led her country into acceding to the World Trade Organization during the 10th Ministerial Conference of the WTO in Nairobi. The accession made Liberia the 35th Least Developed Country to be admitted into the WTO and the organization’s 163rd Member State.

During her visit, President Sirleaf had words of praise for Kenya which she described as a shining example in Africa in terms of progress in development as well as democracy.

She thanked Kenya for its support to Liberia and other West African nations in fighting against the Ebola epidemic. On the Ebola crisis, she indicated that Liberia had made huge progress in developing its health sector, to curb any menace of Ebola. She said access to health services has increased drastically.

The Liberian leader also expressed her gratitude for the role Kenya had played in Liberia in search for peace after the civil war.

She was seen off at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport by President Kenyatta, the Chief of Defense Forces General Samson Mwathethe and the Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet among others.
