A Nanyuki father has been found guilty of defiling his stepdaughter and sentenced to life imprisonment.

While delivering the ruling, Nanyuki Principal Magistrate Waititu Gichimu noted that the prosecution had provided enough evidence to prove that Xaviour Ebu, 33, had sexually abused the 6-year-old girl.

Ebu was accused of defiling the minor on diverse dates between January and March 2017 at Asian Quarters Estate in Nanyuki town.

The former bouncer at a Nanyuki restaurant also faced a second count of indecent assault for which he was also found guilty and sentenced to 10 years in prison.

The court heard how the mother of the Class One girl used to leave her daughter under the care of her stepfather when she went to work for night shift as a waitress at a local hotel.

The prosecution also narrated how one day in March 2017, as the mother was preparing the girl to go to school, she noticed that the minor had worn her panties upside down despite having properly dressed her the previous day.

Upon being questioned, the girl narrated how her stepfather had been sexually molesting her in the evenings whenever her mother was away.

“He had warned me never to tell anyone or else he would kill me,” the minor told the court in her testimony.

The accused went into hiding soon as the incident was reported to the police, only to reappear six months later in Nanyuki town where he was apprehended.

Despite pleading not guilty to the charges, the suspect told the court he had nothing to say in mitigation.

“The accused does not appear remorseful, yet he committed a heinous act on a young girl while he was supposed to be the guardian. He deserves a harsh penalty to discourage other potential offenders,” said the Magistrate while passing the sentence.
