Kibra residents worried after security guard at local clinic tests positive for COVID-19

Residents of Lindi in Kibra are calling for urgent fumigation and contact tracing at a health facility where a guard tested positive for the new coronavirus.

On Saturday, the facility which on normal days serves hundreds of residents seeking health services was quiet. Residents had opted to stay away.

This was after a guard at the facility was picked and later tested positive of the novel coronavirus.

The guard who is now being treated in Hospital is feared to have been in contact with many of the patients as he supervises the hand washing at the main gate.

At times, he even assists with holding young children for mothers as they wash their hands.

And despite picking, isolating, and placing the guard under treatment, little remains known of the process of tracing contacts. Ministry of health facilities are yet to even to fumigate the facility.

The health center serves hundreds of pre and ante-natal care seekers with at least 10 births being recorded daily.

Kibra has been in the spotlight with rising cases being reported in the past four days..and residents disregarding social distancing while still gathering in social places

The rising cases have also been attributed to lack of clean water the expansive and informal nature of the slum putting many residents at risk.
