Lodwar gets Sh25m street lights

Over 500 streets lights worth Sh25 million have been installed in Lodwar Town and its environs in Turkana County.

The lights aimed at boosting trade in the area have been installed along roads in Kanamkemer and Nakwamekwi towns. The project dabbed ‘Mwangaza Mtaani’ seeks to make the town a 24-hour economy.

Chief officer of lands and urban planning in the Turkana County Government, Mark Ewesit, said the county is also planning to light other parts of Turkana County including Katilu, Kalokol and Kakuma.

Ewesit also took the opportunity to welcome investors and businessmen to participate in the project with a view of boosting the economy of Turkana County.

Business people in the area have welcomed the initiative saying it assures security for residents and their business.

“The lights have helped improve security, it is possible now to pick passengers and drop them at their destinations without any issues, as opposed to when the town was dark and motorbike theft was rampant,” said Sylvester Mario, a boda boda operator in the town.
