Loitoktok: Cunning thieves now forcing broke victims to take mobile loans

Residents of Illasit in Loitoktok are living in fear after a daring gang of thieves pitched camp in their village.

The cunning thieves are waiting for night fall to execute daring robberies that have left everyone in shock.

Some of the victims who have asked the area police to step up night patrols say they were forced to take mobile loans by the thieves who later crossed into Tanzania.

The chairman of the Nyumba Kumi in the region Daniel Kiharo said the break-ins had left everyone in fear as they suspect that the thieves are drugging their victims

“They are waking you from your bedroom, and if you do not have any money, they take your phone and apply for loans from mobile lenders,” Kiharo said.

In addition to the loans, the bandits are making away with household items and clothes from drying lines.

“Insecurity is really an issue here, these thieves breaking into homes and stealing everything when we are away toiling,” a resident told the media.

Two people have so far been arrested in connection with the crimes with residents hoping the nightmare will end soon.
