Look for another party, PNU dissolved – Munya told

The Party of National Unity immediate former chairperson, John Kamama, now says the party will not field any candidate in the 2017 General Election since it formally folded and joined Jubilee Party, dealing a major blow to Meru Governor, Peter Munya, who was named the party’s national chair and is set to use it to defend his seat in the August 8, 2017 elections.

Speaking in Nakuru, Kamama said that PNU’s over 700 delegates agreed to dissolve the party to support President Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-election bid, and candidates under Jubilee ticket.

“We cannot acquire party through court cases, we have our own constitution. We, as PNU, went to Kasarani on 8th, 9th and 10th of October and merged,” said Kamama.

Kamama said that, though there is a court case challenging the dissolution of the party, he remains the bonafide chairman adding that a majority of PNU members are current in Jubilee.

He criticized Governor Munya of propagating lies that PNU still exists.

Governor Munya has already re-branded the party and embarked on rigorous party popularization mission in Meru County.

Munya is facing stiff competition for his seat in 2017 elections following declaration by county Senator, Kiraitu Murungi, that he would be seeking to unseat him.

Kamama also condemned the Tuesday, December 20 events in the National Assembly whereby opposition’s Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) legislators unleashed chaos to defeat their Jubilee counterparts move to amend the election laws.

“Despite differences in political ideologies, there was need to uphold respect for the Presidency and the Speaker of the National Assembly,” Kamama said, adding that through the majority and minority leaders in parliament, it would have been possible to create consensus.

Kamama hailed the proposal by Jubilee members to create a back up voting system saying that most parts of the country are poorly covered by internet network and the unpredictable electricity supply in the country.

Kamama also praised President Uhuru Kenyatta’s choice of retired Archbishop of Anglican Church of Kenya, Eliud Wabukhala, to head the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).

He commended Wabukhala’s servant leadership and experience to find graft in the country.
