Louis van Gaal Appointed As New United Manager

Louis, 62, has previously managed top level European football teams for over 20 years and in that time has won domestic titles and domestic cups in three countries.

He will take up his post after the FIFA World Cup, where he will manage the Dutch national team.

Ryan Giggs has been appointed as assistant manager with Frans Hoek and Marcel Bout to join as assistant coaches.

The new manager is taking over after United sacked David Moyes in April only ten months after he succeeded Sir Alex Ferguson.

Ferguson had been in charge for the last 26 years before he retired.

United failed to qualify for the Champions League for the first time since 1995-96 and are out of the European football entirely for the first time in 25 years.

The team finished 7th in the Premier League.
