Low voter turnout as Migori by-election kicks off

The long-awaited Migori by-election kicked off this morning as voters decide who will fill the position left vacant following the death of Ben Oluoch in June.

By the time voting started at 6am, some stations were virtually empty but officials on the ground said they hope more people will turn up by the end of the voting process at 6pm.

There were no incidents reported and poll stations across the county were opened at 6am while a some voters started throning the stations hours earlier.

Low numbers during by-elections are noting unusual as many are at work, others out of the county and it being a normal working day restricts many who would like to take part in the process.

IEBC and the police have announced they are ready for the by-election and there will be adequate security throughout the entire process.
