LSK wants JSC to make public reasons for dropping CJ post applicants

The Law Society of Kenya has now petitioned the Judicial Service Commission to make public reasons for rejecting eight applicants for the Chief Justice post.

LSK President Isaac Okero says they want the JSC to make public the grounds for rejecting the applicants to end speculation on the recruitment of the next CJ.

On Tuesday, JSC shortlisted only six applicants for the CJ’s post out of 14 who had expressed interest to take over from Dr. Willy Mutunga who retired late last month.

Among the applicants who were dropped include Justice (Rtd.) Aaron Ringera and US-based legal scholar Prof. Makau Mutua.

On Wednesday, JSC will shortlist applicants for the position of Deputy Chief Justice before shortlisting applicants for the position of Supreme Court judge Thursday.
