Luo council of elders want pension for former councillors
The Luo council of elders is urging the government to give gratuity to former councillors.
According to National Treasurer Abel Ombuor, most of the former councillors are living in poverty.
Speaking to Citizen Digital, Ombuor said the former councillors should be entitled to the package sought by the current legislators.
“It’s unfortunate that most of the former councillors are dying very poor yet the government has the potential to support them; some of them are bedridden because they cannot afford the cost of treatment,” he said.
He further added that the former councillors did a commendable job and therefore their efforts must be appreciated and that the government should improve on there welfare.
The Luo council of elders said the current county government has benefited from the structures which were put in place by the former councillors.
According to them, it is an indication that they worked tirelessly during their tenure in public service.
