Lupita’s Ksh 13 Million Dress Stolen

The custom-made Calvin Klein Collection by Francisco Costa dress was worn the actress to Sunday's Academy Awards before it was stolen from a hotel on Wednesday.

The dress is said to be covered with 6,000 real pearls. The gown was reported missing at 11:23 pm on Wednesday.

Police believe that it was stolen between 8 am and 9 pm that day. Detectives are dusting for fingerprints, talking to staff, and looking at surveillance footage from L.A.'s London Hotel for clues.

Nyong’o won best supporting actress last year for Twelve Years a Slave and was a presenter at Sunday's ceremony.

FLUID AND LIQUID DRESS

People magazine named her the most beautiful person of 2014.

On the red carpet on Sunday, Nyong'o, told Associated Press that she was "just wearing my diamonds and pearls. My homage to (musician) Prince."

She added of the dress: "We talked about it being fluid and liquid. I wanted it to be an homage to the sea."

No arrests have been made so far.

According to the Guardian, Nyong’o is not the first person to fall victim to this kind of high-fashion theft. In 2013, jewellery worth a million dollars was stolen from a hotel in Nice, after model Cara Delavigne wore them to the Cannes film festival.

Earlier this month, thieves stole the Oscar statuette won by Charlie Chaplin in 1929 from a museum in Paris.
