Lwak Girls’ High School student charged with incitement to violence

A Form Three student at Lwak Girls’ High School in Rarieda sub-county, Siaya County, was on Thursday arraigned in court and charged with incitement to violence.

The student, who appeared before Bondo Senior Resident Magistrate Edwin Nyongesa, had been arrested for allegedly threatening to burn down a dormitory in the school.

The court heard that on July 9, 2018, the accused publicized a notice informing the school of her intention to burn a dormitory at the institution contrary to Section 96 of the Penal Code.

The Prosecution told the court that the student publicised the notice which read in part “we will burn the dormitory tonight.”

The court was told that the notice implied that this was a desirable act calculated to lead the students of the school to go on strike and cause destruction of the school property.

The accused pleaded guilty to the charges and was sent to remand at the Juvenile Remand Home in Kisumu while the alleged incitement publication was sent to handwriting experts for analysis.

The case will be mentioned on July 25, 2018.
