Maangi ditches Jubilee, returns to Opposition

Kisii County Deputy Governor Joash Maangi on May 16 ditched President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee Party for Raila Odinga’s National Supper Alliance (NASA).

Elected in 2013 on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket, Maangi defected to Jubilee in 2016.

Speaking on Tuesday, Maangi said that he decided to return to the Opposition because his constituents had urged him to work with the Raila-led outfit.

“I am their leader…I can’t let them walk alone,” he told a press conference held to unveil him at Capitol Hill in Nairobi.

Joash Maangi will be Ongwae’s running mate in the August 8 polls.

This move comes just a day before NASA’s Kisii rally – the second in a series of events aimed at rallying 10 million votes ahead of the August 8 polls.

Raila, his running mate Kalonzo Musyoka and other NASA leaders had their first rally in Afraha Stadium, Nakuru County.
