Machakos veterans urge Kalonzo to ditch Raila, support Kenyatta

Mau Mau war veterans in Machakos have urged Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka to ditch the opposition National Super Alliance outfit and its leader Raila Odinga and join hands with President Uhuru Kenyatta for the sake of his political future.

Through a joint statement read by Mwala sub-county chapter chairperson Mzee Rev. Johstone Kiiti, the elders said Kalonzo was being politically “misused” by Odinga, further  urging him to reconsider his stand as opposition politics may derail development in the drought-hit region.

“We love Kalonzo and we want him to come back home. We do not want him to be in the opposition, because it was us who fought for independence. Kalonzo was going on well previously, we do not know what or who derailed him along the way,” said Rev. Kiiti.

“Come home Kalonzo, you’re not hated, you are loved. You are like our prodigal son,” added the elder.

84-year-old Mzee Kiiti also thanked Musyoka for heeding their advice not to take the controversial oath as the ‘people’s deputy president.’

The veterans had last month threatened to curse former Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama alongside Musyoka should the latter take oath as ‘people’s deputy president’.

“We, the Mau Mau, have not been consulted in all this, go ahead at your own risk. Your families and relatives will be seeing a lot of punitive changes in their health. It is us who are cursing you, there is no Canaan you are going,” said the veterans prior to the controversial oathing ceremony held on January 30.

Mr. Kiiti said the former Vice President had gone through tough times in the opposition ranging from mockery to insults.

They castigated Odinga as a man whose political agenda was pegged on selfishness and would lead the country to the dogs.

The veterans also appealed to President Kenyatta to invite them to State House so that they could bless him as he embarks on his second and last term in office.
