Madrassa teacher accused of defiling nine students escapes

A Madrassa teacher from a private school in Lamu has gone into hiding after he allegedly defiled nine of his students.

Area leaders and residents are now blaming security officials for laxity after the teacher fled following the accusations.

Lamu Women Representative Shakil Abdalla expressed lack of confidence in area leaders due to the rising cases of rape and child defilement.

Her sentiments were echoed by Lamu West Member of Parliament Julius Ndegwa, who gave the government one week to catch the suspect.

This comes barely a week after police in Elburgon, Nakuru County arrested a 35-year-old Sunday school teacher who was accused of sexually molesting more than 15 boys in his class.

The boys, aged between 9 and 13, said the man had been abusing them for close to three months in his house.

Reports indicate that David Mugo, a Sunday school teacher at Elburgon West Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA), would pick the minors from the church and take them to his house in the pretext of holding Bible study.

Irate parents stormed the house of the local trader at Kasarani market but police came to his rescue before the public lynched him.

Mugo was arrested on Sunday and is being detained at the Elburgon Police Station.
