Maendeleo ya Wanaume chairman in court over conning traders

Maendeleo ya Wanaume Chairman Nderitu Njoka was on Thursday morning arraigned at a Maralal court in Samburu and charged with obtaining money under false pretenses.

Njoka, however, denied the charges before the resident Magistrate Charles Ndegwa and was released on a bond of Sh100,000.

The hearing was set for August 9, 2015.

Njoka was arrested in Maralal Wednesday for allegedly receiving fraudulently Sh200,000 from 15 businessmen that was meant for paying rent for stalls.

The businessmen are accusing Njoka of allegedly taking their money ostensibly to construct stalls for them over a year ago after he was allegedly given the construction contract.

However, Njoka denied the allegations saying they were meant to tarnish his name as the chairman of Maendeleo ya Wanaume.

I have never been a conman, I am an advocate of human rights and particularly men and boys and this will not stop me from fighting for their rights,” said Njoka.
