Magadho Grazing

The multi-billion livestock industry is once again threatened in Kenya due to the on-going drought. Population pressure and climate change coupled with uncontrolled grazing is making an already bad situation worse. To reverse this sorry state, the counties of Isiolo, Samburu, Marsabit, Laikipia and Turkana have appointed ordinary pastoralists as grazing coordinators and committee members to manage grazing in the northern Kenya region. Sylvia Chebet examines how the grazing by-laws they are developing will keep this high potential industry afloat and mitigate conflicts.
