Magistrate up in arms after court now told Waititu is on bed rest

Trial Magistrate Nzuki Thomas has directed that all accused persons in the case involving former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu attend the hearing.

This is after the court was told that Waititu has been placed on bed rest for a period of seven days as from October 17 to 24.

“Let people attend hearings. I don’t want to hear adjournments. Don’t come and generate another medical opinion. Let’s stand and hear matters that’s where justice lies,” he said on Wednesday.

Waititu, his wife Susan Wangari Ndung’u and 8 others are embroiled in a corruption case over an alleged Ksh. 588million tender that is said to have been irregular.

They all pleaded not guilty and are out on a cash bail.

During the last mention, the court was informed that Waititu tested positive for COVID-19 causing the case to be adjourned.

On Wednesday, the Magistrate directed that the matter he heard as earlier scheduled.

All parties are expected to appear for the hearing of the case on October 26.
