“Pursuant to Section 6 (9) of the Public Appointments (Parliamentary Approval) Act 2011, the Committee now invites interested members of the public to submit any representation by written statement on oath (affidavit) with supported evidence contesting the suitability of the said nominee for appointment to office as Cabinet Secretary for Education,” the notice reads.

The documents he is expected to submit include clearance certificates from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), Higher Education Loans Board (HELB), Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and Credit and Reference Bureau (CRB).

During the vetting, the House team will also consider Prof. Magoha’s academic qualifications, integrity, conduct and track record.

After the evaluation, a report will be written and if Parliament endorses it, the President will appoint Prof. Magoha as Education CS.

He will then be sworn into office, taking over from Amb. Amina Mohammed who was moved to the Sports, Culture and Heritage docket after the Rashid Echesa was sacked.

Prof. Magoha has in the past been described as a fiery, no-nonsense, strict and selfless public servant.

He is currently on the board of the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) as well as the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KPMDU).

The Professor, who is a trained surgeon, was also at the helm of the University of Nairobi and left the Vice Chancellor position in 2015.
