Make Kiambu Great Again: Governor James Nyoros grand plan

Kiambu Governor James Nyoro has taken the reins of Kiambu County from his former boss Ferdinard Waititu, vowing to make Kiambu great again.

In his inaugural speech, he noted that Kiambu has been lagging behind based on a number of reasons; among them poor planning an unnecessary politicking.

Top of his agenda is creating employment for youth and boosting the Agricultural sector to create wealth and food security in the vibrant country.

In the next 2-3 months, the county will be breaking ground on various development projects including Thika Special Economic Zone, Muguga Agri-city – designed to boost farm produce value addition, and the Uplands pork and bacon factory.

The bacon factory construction is set to begin in a few months with the governor saying they have the land and the funding to move forward.

“We will be breaking ground over the next two or three months, the only remaining thing is a feasibility study which we are handling,” He said.

On matters agriculture, Nyoro says the county government will be looking at ways in which cash crop farmers can get better bargains for their coffee.

Additionally, the county government will also prioritize dairy farming and ensure that milk does not go to waste by getting markets and negotiating for better prices.

The governor said Kiambu has brought dairy farmers together to form a Dairy co-operative company that will improve dairy farming in the county by far.

Coffee farmers recently signed a memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and formed the Kiambu Coffee Association.

“The Coffee association has KSh.50M budget and will be looking at the Western Markets where we can better sell our produce” Nyoro explained.

In the coming days, Nyoro said Kiambu will be sending MCA’s to America to figure out how the county can open coffee warehouses there in a bid of getting better markets for their coffee.

Nyoro was also quick to mention that he will be meeting with Kiambu leaders, both elected and retired in working out a formula that will weed out political squabbles that have been the bane of Kiambu’s development.
