Makueni County Assembly fire was an inside job – Kibwana

Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana now alleges that the fire that razed the Makueni County Assembly offices could have been an inside job. The Governor made the shocking allegations even as the police launched a probe into the cause of the fire that destroyed property worth millions of shillings, crippling operations at the county assembly.

Since 2013, Governor Kibwana has been embroiled in a bitter leadership battle with the members of the Makueni County Assembly leading to a near disbandment of the county government were it not for President Uhuru Kenyatta’s intervention.

The President declined to dissolve the county after a commission of inquiry proposed so, instead asking the parties to resolve the impasse.

Governor Kibwana says he is working closely with his rivals even amidst the political storm that rocked Makueni County.

Even as the police proceed with investigations to establish the cause of the inferno, the big question remains: Could the blaze have been an inside job that could have been avoided if the intelligence received had been acted on?
