Makueni Dissolution Commission to Start Public Hearing

The Mohamed Nyaoga led commission is starting its work despite Mbooni Member of Parliament Michael Kisoi moving to the High Court to have the petition presented to the President in November last year declared unconstitutional.

With the 6 member commission of inquiry verifying the authenticity of the grounds given by nearly 50,000 Makueni residents in a petition to President Kenyatta beginning its work this weekend, Mr. Nyaoga says that the investigations will determine the way forward for the county.

“Our mandate as we go to Makueni is to investigate the grounds in the petition seeking the suspension of Makueni County in every constituency,” said Mr. Nayoga.

Hold all sittings in Makueni

Mbooni MP Michael Manthi Kisoi is seeking a court declaration that both the petition presented to the President on November 22nd, 2014 and the constitution of the six member commission be declared unconstitutional.

However, Mr. Nyaoga, has moved to allay fears that the hearings will be held in Nairobi as argued in the petition by Kisoi.

“Nairobi has just been the base, but we will hold all sittings in Makueni.”

The matter has been certified urgent and is to be heard on April 24th, 2015. The commission plans to meet lobby groups, the county leadership and the voters during the thirty day inquiry.

“Our findings will form a reference for future disputes resolution of a similar kind,” added Mr. Nyaoga.

The commission will then prepare a report to be presented to the President who will later table it in the Senate. The Upper House will then determine whether the Makueni County Government will be suspended or not.
