Makueni Residents Intimidated by Governors Supporters, Maanzo

While appearing on Citizen TV’s Power Breakfast show, Makueni Member of Parliament Daniel Maanzo alleged that residents in the county have raised concerns over harassment and  intimidation by a section of the governor’s supporters who want to frustrate the dissolution commissions’ hearing.

“We have received information from our electorates that they have been intimidated so that they do not testify before the commission. This is not acceptable and we will not take it lightly,” he said.

“We further have information that there has been interference on the inquiry process that has just started. The commission needs to be allowed enough time to listen to the people of Makueni without forcing them on what to say or how to say it.”

Maanzo said that the County Government of Makueni had failed to assure the residents of their future and therefore opposed to the testimonies from the residents.

He further alleged that the County Government of Makueni had lost track of its 2013 campaign manifesto hence the rush to have the county dissolved.

“The county government has been unable to achieve even one of its many promises made during the 2013 campaign hence the petition to have the county dissolved so that it can easily confuse the residents.”

He noted that the county government – under the leadership of Prof Kibwana – has been unable to address issues of poverty, corruption, water shortage and poor healthcare among others.

He, however, said that the future of Makueni is bright despite the many challenges being experienced at the administrative level.
