Makueni workers down tools over pay

Makueni county government workers have downed their tools protesting over delayed remittance of their salaries.

The county staff marched to the office of Governor Kivutha Kibwana who instead blamed the national government for failing to release the funds meant to pay the workers.

Also in Nyeri County, nurses have announced that they will down their tools on Monday to protest what they have termed as poor pay, lack of promotions and poor working conditions.

Led by Nyeri County Nurses Union chair Anne Nyawira, the nurses said that their grievances have been ignored despite several meetings with health stakeholders.

This comes just two days after Kiambu health workers downed their tools in what they claim is delayed pay.

They accused the County Government of Kiambu of not being sensitive to their plight citing that their salary had now been delayed for a month.

They also vowed to stay away from their workstations despite hundreds of patients flocking to the facility with no assistance.
