Malawi President Peter Mutharika goes missing
Malawi President, Peter Mutharika, has reportedly failed to return to his country since last month when he left for New York to attend the United Nations General Assembly.
The meeting in New York ended on September 26, 2016 but Mutharika is yet to be seen back home.
Malawians have taken to social media to locate their President, using the hashtag #bringbackmutharika.
Mutharika departed for the United States on September 15, 2016 to attend this year’s UN General Assembly where he addressed a sitting of Heads of States.
The President has been away without official leave for almost three weeks now. Malawians have taken to social media using the humorous hashtag #bringbackmutharika.
Despite its severity, some social media users decided to make light of the situation.
The mystery of the President’s ‘disappearance’ has fanned speculation and rumors, with others believing he may be very ill.
His spokesperson reportedly dispelled the rumours stating that Mutharika was ‘enjoying very robust health’, but did not reveal the President’s whereabouts.
