Malindi Court moves nominations deadline to April 30th

The High Court in Malindi has issued fresh orders compelling party primaries to end by Sunday, April 30, 2017.

High Court Judge Justice Weldon Korir issued the directive following an application made by Central Organization of Trade Unions opposing nominations to be held on Monday, May 1st, which is Labour Day.

In the affidavit, COTU argued that Monday is public holiday hence party nominations should not be held on same day as it is unconstitutional.

On Monday, Judge Korir ordered that the nominations deadline for the ongoing political party primaries be extended by five days following an application by an NGO.

In the suit, Angaza Empowerment Network contends that the Constitution sets aside May 7th as the deadline for primaries and not April 26 as stipulated by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.
