Mama Lucy Kibaki to be laid to rest on Saturday

Former First Lady Lucy Kibaki will be laid to rest on Saturday, according to a communique from State House.

The body of the former first lady arrived at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport Sunday morning before the cortege was taken to Lee Funeral Home.

Former President Mwai Kibaki and his son Anthony accompanied the body from London to Nairobi where Lucy Kibaki had been taken for treatment while his two other children Jimmy and David were present at the airport to receive the late Mrs Kibaki.

President Uhuru Kenyatta, Deputy President William Ruto and Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery are among the leaders who were present at JKIA to receive the body.

A brief prayer service, presided over by Father Dominic Wamugunda, was held for the former first lady on arrival.

State House further stated that the next open session for Mama Lucy will be on Wednesday at the Consolata Shrine in Westlands where a funeral service will be held with the burial set for Saturday at her home in Othaya.

Lucy Kibaki passed on Tuesday morning at the Bupa Cromwell Hospital in London.

Several leaders including President Uhuru Kenyatta, DP Ruto, CORD leaders Raila Odinga, Moses Wetangula and Kalonzo Musyoka, Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua, National Assembly Leader Aden Duale, Deputy Minority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen are among the leaders who have paid their tribute to the late Mama Lucy.
