Mama Sarah Obama in city to meet grandson

Mama Sarah Obama will on Friday at 8:10 am fly to Nairobi from Kogelo, Siaya County to meet her grandson and U.S. President Barack Obama who arrives on the same day.

Mama Sarah, Obama’s grandmother, was set to travel to Nairobi on Thursday, but upon advice from the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi, she opted to reschedule her flight to Friday morning.

The information confirmed the Siaya residents’ uncertainties that President Obama would not be visiting his ancestral village of Kogelo.

The residents expressed disappointments while a section still remains hopeful that Mr. Obama will visit them.

The U.S. Embassy had one week ago confirmed that President Obama will not be heading to Siaya.

Reports indicate that Obama will hold a private meeting with his Kenyan family members in Nairobi during his three-day visit.

Mama Sarah Obama on Thursday joined Governor Rasanga to officially launch the Siaya County Tourism and Cultural Expo.

She will be traveling together with the Siaya Governor to Nairobi on Friday.

Rasanga has been invited alongside other Governors by President Uhuru Kenyatta to meet with President Obama on Sunday.

The U.S President will be in the country to hold bilateral meetings with Uhuru Kenyatta and preside over the opening of the Global Entrepreneurship Summit which will kick off on Saturday at the United Nations Offices in Gigiri, Nairobi.
