Man, 20, from Somalia busted carrying Ksh.3M in cash on Garissa highway

Police on Thursday discovered a man carrying Ksh. 3million in cash during a crackdown on contraband goods on the Mwingi-Garissa highway.

According to Mwingi Central police boss Peter Mutuma, the man was identified as 20-year-old Abdirahman Abdi.

During the incident, over ten vehicles were impounded at Mutwangombe area after they were found carrying contraband goods.

Police discovered over 100 sacks containing banned charcoal, bales of polythene bags, boxes of canned fish, boxes of relief tablets, rolls of cloth materials and other items.

The police commander further noted that some of the vehicles were also ferrying excess passengers.

They suspect that the goods being transported into the country originated from Somalia.

The OCPD further noted that such unaccustomed goods seized are taking away from the government in terms of revenue.

The drivers of the said vehicles will be arraigned at the Mwingi Law Courts.
