Man, 21, sentenced to 50 years in jail for killing grandmother in Migori

A 21-year-old man is set to serve a jail term of 50 years after pleading guilty to killing his grandmother at Nyangore village in Migori County.

Samwel Chacha Matiko was on Tuesday slapped with the sentence by a Migori court after pleading guilty to the offense when he was previously arraigned on February 18, 2021.

The court heard that Matiko hit the deceased, Elizabeth Waisiko Rioba, on the head with a wooden stick following a disagreement on January 29, 2021.

Postmortem conducted revealed that the 76-year-old succumbed to injuries sustained on the head after the incident.

The convict now has 14 days to appeal the judgment issued by the court.
