Man, 23, arrested over students murder in Embu

A 23-year-old man was on Wednesday evening arrested for allegedly being involved in death of a Dedan Kimathi University student.

Simon Ndungu is suspected to have been in possession of the deceased’s mobile phone, which was traced by the police to Embu County.

Ndung’u was allegedly involved in a fight with the student after a night out over what police say was a disagreement on a Sh4,000 bill.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, Embu criminal investigation officer Joshua Cheptoo said the suspect could have demanded the full payment after the deceased paid him Sh3,000 through M-pesa before the fight broke out.

“Njuguna’s lifeless body was discovered by residents of Kangaru dumped along the Embu -Meru Highway near Kenya Government School in Embu West on Thursday morning,” said the investigation officer.

The suspect is currently being held at Embu Police Station aiding police with investigations.

The CID officer added that information from members of the public was helping the police crack murder cases, adding that the suspect may be charged with murder upon completion of investigations.
