Man, 29, lynched for allegedly stealing from bar

A 29-year-old man was on Sunday night lynched by an irate mob at Nyamonye Trading Center, East Yimbo Location in Bondo sub-County after being suspected of committing a robbery.

Oscar Omondi was accused of stealing a generator and music equipment from a bar called Nyamonye Inn on Saturday.

According to Nyamonye sub-location assistant chief, Mrs Margaret Ochinga, the deceased who hails from the nearby Pala sub-location was cornered by members of the public who interrogated him before he revealed the whereabouts of the stolen items.

Mrs Ochinga told Citizen Digital that the suspect told members of the public that he was not involved in the Saturday robbery but knew those involved, and even named a few people with whom they have been stealing.

The administrator stated that this angered the crowd who pounced on him with kicks and blows before setting his body ablaze.

Mrs Ochinga stated that the body of the suspect has since been taken to Bondo sub-County Hospital mortuary to await a postmortem as investigations begin into the matter.

She at the same time cautioned members of the public to desist from taking the law into their hands, adding that once a suspect has been arrested, he or she should be handed over to the police.
