Man, 34, arrested for allegedly clobbering wife to death with hammer

Police in Kirinyaga County are holding a 34-year-old man for allegedly clobbering his wife to death with a hammer.

Confirming the incident, Kirinyaga East sub-county Deputy Police Commander Patrick Nyaanga said the suspect – Joseph Githae – had informed the police that his wife – Jane Wawira – committed suicide in their house.

However, preliminary investigations carried out by the police upon visiting the scene showed that the man strangled the 30-year-old woman using her leso before killing her.

“Jane Wawira was strangled then inflicted by a blunt object,” said Mr. Nyaanga, further adding that the couple’s two children “have recorded statements saying their father killed their mother with hammer.”

The police boss stated that the suspect, who is being held at the Kianyaga Police Station, will be charged with murder on Monday.
