Man, 42, shot by AP officers in unclear circumstances

A family at the Lake View Estate in Nakuru County is mourning the death of their kin, 42-year-old Emmanuel Bukachi, who was allegedly shot by administration police officers on Sunday.

Mr Bukachi was allegedly shot just 50 meters from his home by an AP officer who had been called in to intervene in a fight at a local pub.

According to family members, their father usually left the house at about 11pm to smoke, with his eldest daughter narrating that he left the house at 9:30pm to get some fresh air.

“He told us he was stepping out to get some fresh air, although it was a common behavior since he was a smoker and never drank alcohol,” said Ms Bukachi.

The deceased was reportedly standing inside his compound near the gate when the police officers started shooting in the air while running towards his compound.

However, in his attempt at hiding to save his life was in vain as he was shot in the head and leg.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, Nakuru OCPD James Lelia said they had begun collecting evidence regarding the involvement of AP officers in the death of Bukachi.

“We have information of the incident involving APs from Flamingo (AP Camp) and we are looking into the matter. We will collect statements from them,” said Lelia.

Bukachi is said to have succumbed to injuries on his way to the Rift Valley Provincial Hospital where he had been referred for further treatment after receiving First Aid at the St. Elizabeth Medical Centre.
