Man, 50, hacks son to death

Police in Bomet County are holding a man for allegedly hacking his son to death following a domestic row on Wednesday.

Confirming the incident, Tegaat Location Chief Simion Kitur said that the suspect, 50, attacked his son with a panga, inflicting a deep cut on his head and killing him on the spot.

“The suspect had a quarrel with his son over family issues that evening before he hacked the deceased with a panga, the villages who rushed to the scene to rescue the son found him already dead,” said Kitur.

According to the chief, the two have been having wrangles but they have always sorted out their differences and moved on, adding that the suspect was a humble man with no criminal record.

Members of nyumba kumi initiative rescued the suspect from irate members of the public who wanted to lynch him; he was later arrested and taken to Bomet Police Station for questioning.

Bomet OCPD Abel Sande warned the public against taking the law into their hands, saying they should find amicable ways of solving their differences instead of resorting to violence.

“I agree we are human beings bound to have differences, but we should sit down and resolve those issues without really harming one another. It doesn’t hurt to involve a third party if you feel aggrieved,” said the police boss.

The body of the deceased was taken to Longisa County Referral Hospital mortuary.
