Man accused of assaulting Wajir politician recounts incident in court

A case in which a man is accused of assaulting Wajir politician Hussein Mohamed came up for hearing on Wednesday with two defense witnesses testifying in court.

The first defense witness to testify was the accused person, Jamal Mohamed. He alleged that he met the complainant outside a Mosque on Eastleigh 7th street to sort out some outstanding financial issues with regard to purchase and sale of a machinery.

Jamal claimed they got into a disagreement with the politician leading into a fight that saw the complainant fall into a ditch sustaining serious injuries.

The accused further told the court that at that moment he fled the scene fearing for his life since a crowd was forming. Jamal said he went into hiding for four days before he thereafter surrendered to the police.

It was then that he was arrested and arraigned at the Makadara Law Courts.

The second defense witness was Mr. Abdullahi, an uncle to the accused person. He told the court that he was present at the meeting with the complainant and the accused outside the mosque.

Mr. Abdullahi submitted that the complainant is the one who initiated the conversation and it was the accused person who initiated the fight.

He told the court that it was the complainant who initiated the conversation while the accused person triggered the fight.

The second witness, however, told the court he could not remember the shoes, which the accused person wore on that fateful day.

The said incident occurred in September 2017.
