Man accused of defiling girl, 7, commits suicide after arrest warrant issued

A 52-year-old man accused of defiling a girl aged 7 years in Lwala Kadera Village, Migori County has committed suicide a day after a warrant of arrest was issued against him.

The body of the suspect identified as Fredrick Ojuok Ogolla was Sunday afternoon found hanging on rope tied to a tree within Ranen forest in Awendo sub-county after he went missing two days ago.

Area Assistant Chief Kennedy Otieno said they were yet to establish why the suspect committed suicide, however, they suspect that he opted to take his own life due to the defilement case against him.

The chief noted that a warrant of arrest had been issued against the suspect three days ago, adding that they had been pursuing him.

According to the girl’s mother, her daughter was forced into the act on Thurday this week.

He said the body of the deceased has been moved to Migori Level Four Hospital mortuary pending investigations.
