Revealed: Why Kisii man allegedly killed newlywed, 4-month pregnant wife

Police in Kisii are holding a man who allegedly strangled to death his newly wed wife before attempting suicide by throwing himself in a nearby river on Monday.

George Marita, 28, reportedly strangled his wife, Dorcas Nyaboke — who was four months pregnant — after she demanded to know why he had arrived home late Sunday night.

This reportedly led to an argument before the man turned violent and attacked the woman.

Confirming the incident, Nyamage Assistant Chief Sarah Isaboke said the accused then threw himself into River Kegati before passersby rescued him and called his brother who took him to his home.

“On reaching home, the brother was shocked to find Nyaboke lying on the floor in vomit,” said Ms. Isaboke.

He then raised alarm, causing neighbors to alert their landlord who in turn called the administrator and the suspect was arrested.

Mr. Marita is being held at Kisii Central Police Station pending investigations while the body of the deceased was transferred to the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary.
