Man arraigned for smashing windows to mother's house

A 26-year-old man will serve six months in jail or pay a fine of Ksh.30, 000 for smashing the window panes to his mother’s house in Ruvutiri Village, Embu County, after being denied access for arriving home drunk.

Appearing before Senior Resident Magistrate Vincent Nyakundi, the accused, Morris Mungendi Njiru, pleaded guilty to the charges leveled against him.

Njiru was charged with willfully and unlawfully damaging 64 window panes valued at Ksh.5, 120 belonging to his mother – Purity Marigu Mbogo – on June 19, 2018.

The accused was said to have arrived home late at night and demanded the door be opened but when his mother refused, he tried to forcefully and violently gain entry while still inebriated.

Njiru reportedly started smashing the window panes one by one using a metal bar.

It was then that his mother screamed for help and when the neighbors responded to her distress call, the accused took off to an unknown destination.

Marigu reported the matter at Kathangari Police Post after which the accused was arrested and arraigned in court.
