Man arrested as he tried to throw child in pit latrine

A 28-year-old man was on Monday arrested for trying to kill his wife and three children at Utithini village in Masinga, Machakos County.

Confirming the bizarre incident, area Assistant Chief Josephat Muli Mawia said the suspect was caught trying to throw one of the children in a pit latrine.

According to the chief, the suspect had demanded for money raised in a fundraiser organised by his parents on Saturday. After being denied, he threatened he would kill his wife and children.

On Monday morning, he grabbed one of the children aged four months and headed to the pit latrine. His horrified mother raised alarm and also called the chief who is a neighbour and managed to prevent the disaster.

The 28-year-old was locked up at Masinga Police Station pending further investigations.

Meanwhile, police have launched a manhunt for a man who reportedly strangled to death his wife and three children at Marurui area in Roysambu, Nairobi County.

The incident is reported to have occurred in the early hours of Monday morning after which the suspect fled. The deceased children were in Class Eight and Four, with the youngest being in Class Two.
