Police in Migori on Sunday morning arrested one suspect and seized bhang worth Ksh.5 million at Bwembu area in Suna West sub county.

Migori Administration Police commandant Julius Amarika said police acting on a tip-off found the 500 kilograms of bhang packed in gunny bags and hidden in a maize plantation.

According to Mr. Amarika, the suspect identified as Duncan Ochieng was found manning the bhang which was set to be ferried to an unknown destination.

The suspected drug peddler was detained at Migori Police Station ahead of his arraignment in court on Monday.

The police commandant said a crackdown on drugs would be intensified in the county, warning drug peddlers to quit the trade before the law catches up with them.

He added that the county security committee is working in collaboration with officers from Tanzania to deal with the sale of illegal drugs between the two countries.
